Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh, my!
Well, I haven't heard about any tigers or bears in the neighborhood lately but a teacher from Foothills Elementary sighted a mountain lion on Tuesday, November 17th. It was running after three deer through the school property and
into the field behind Safeway. Some have seen a mountain lion while hiking on Green Mountain and one hker reported a lion grabbed her dog but then let it go. Right now the school is suggesting that students walk in groups or with a parent to and from school. Because of the snow and cold, the deer are coming down Green Mountain from the foothills and with that come the hunters.
For more information about Mountain Lions in our area go to www.lakewood.org and click on Animal Control under City Services. On the left click on "Problems with Wildlife". From there you can click on "Mountain Lion" or the animal of your choice to learn more.
If you should see a mountain lion in the neighborhood call animal control or the division of wildlife. They like to keep track of where these animals are especially when in our neighborhoods.
