Green Mountainside Civic Association Newsletter

September 2009

Hello Neighbors!

I am excited to be writing this to you using our new Green Mountain Estates web site!

Most of you are receiving this via paper delivery but soon you can receive alerts, event notifications and newsletters via email.  All you need to do is go to www.greenmountainestates.org .  On the left hand side it says 'Get the newsletter'  Enter your name and email address.  Check the box indicating GMCA newsletter and whether you want to receive it in HTML format (if not leave unchecked and you will receive text only).  It is that simple.

You will be able to receive alerts, event happenings and the GMCA newsletter via the web site.  This will cut down on printing and delivery costs, you will get more up-to-date information and it will be a great way to connect with neighbors and the community.  Soon you will be able to register on the web site to be a part of some exciting happenings, such as:

  • Adopt-a-Trail.  Did you know Green Mountain Estates adopted a trail on Green Mtn?  We even have our own sign.  Some have already volunteered for trail maintenance but we could always use more.
  • Foothills Park Planning.  The city of Lakewood has invited us to help with the planning of Foothills Park improvements.  And, many residents have already called with ideas in how to make the $50,000 grant money go as far as possible.  You are welcome to become a part of this great opportunity.
  • How can or can we influence planning for the field behind Safeway (skirted by Ohio and Mississippi)?  Some folks will be meeting the second week of September to start looking at the possibilities.
  • Parent Club.  I already have some baby sitters who have contacted me and we need to get their info on the web site.  Also, many parents of infant/toddlers have expressed interest in play dates for adult interaction ;-)

You can still receive the newsletter via paper delivery.  Please contact me by email or call me at 720.963.0730 to be sure that happens.

I hope you take a look at the web site and sign-up for the newsletter.  It is your website!  Make it what you want (I'm always open to suggestions and new ideas) get involved and make it your community!

Thank you, Janice Bradburn

Fall Clean Up Is September 26th!

GMCA is sponsoring our neighborhood clean-up Saturday, September 26th from 8:00 AM to 11: 00 AM (or until the dumpsters are filled).  the location is Green Mountain United Methodist Church, located at 12755 W. Cedar Dr.  The clean up event will be held in the parking lot on the north side of the church.  To enter the parking lot, turn off Cedar Drive just west of the church.

Roll-offs will be provided along with a wood chipper provided by A to Z rentals to mulch branches and shrubs.  DBL Marketing Service will take steel and aluminum scrap, lawn mowers, barbeques, water heaters and major appliances (such as refrigerators and air conditioners).

This service is limited to Green Mountain Estates residents.  Proof of residency is required.  GMCA volunteers will be on hand to direct traffic and help where necessary.  They will accept donations to offset some of the cost of this service.

Items that can NOT be accepted are: liquid, radioactive, toxic, ignitable, medical, corrosive or defined as hasardous (This includes computers, computer monitors and televisions.).

Volunteers are what make this work.  If you can volunteer for that morning or even for an hour please contact Janice Bradburn at 720.963.0730.

Foothills Park Improvement

With the hard work of many, especially Diane Rhodus, a $50,000 grant was received for improvement at Foothills Park.  What may seem like a lot really doesn't go that far for park improvements now-a-days.

Many residents in the neighborhood have some great ideas implementing contributions, hard work and sweat to help the grant money go as far as possible.  The City of Lakewood would also like input on the park improvements.  Hopefully as all these ideas come together we will have a park our community, adults and children can enjoy.

If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact Janice Bradburn at 720.963.0730 or go to the web site under 'contact us' and click on my name.
