GMCA will give $2 for every resident attending to help defer costs of plates, cups etc. A sign-up sheet is attached that you can print for your convenience.
Block Parties are a great way to meet new neighbors and catch up with the old. As communities gather for events like this there is a healthier atmosphere and a safer one. With that said, it is also a great place to start a Neighborhood Watch on your block. What does having a Neighborhood Watch take? Not much really, sharing phone numbers and email addresses with neighbors and calling if you see something unusual. Letting neighbors know when you are out of town so that any weird or unusual activity can be reported. One neighbor needs to be a block captain, but the only thing needed is to be sure to get everyone a newsletter printed by the city. This happens only about 3 times per year and is available on-line (so really, most folks can get it themselves with a reminder from the block captain!) Go to Neighborhood Watch at the website for more info. Neighborhoods with Neighborhood Watch have far less crime than other neighborhoods.
If you can get sign-up sheets to someone on the board after the block party GMCA will be sure to get a check to you as soon as possible. Also, let me know when yours is scheduled and maybe I can stop by to meet some folks.
Thanks, Janice Bradburn
President GMCA
