The GMCA Neighborhood Picnic keeps getting better every year! This year’s picnic, on Sunday, August 29, was another great success with over 170 of our Green Mountain Estates residents coming out to celebrate the end of summer with their neighbors.
It was a beautiful, but breezy day, for a picnic at the Foothills Park, located next to Foothills Elementary School. Residents spent the afternoon sitting around eating good food and talking with their neighbors while the children enjoyed playing games and running around the newly improved park.
GMCA, headed by Diane Rhodus, was the driving force behind the park renovation, which was funded by a grant from the City of Lakewood and GMCA. The dedication ceremony was highlighted by Diane cutting a red ribbon around the playground. It is because of Diane’s work and tenacity that the neighborhood children are able to enjoy the new park. Thank you Diane!
The picnic was organized by the GMCA board but it was our neighbors who provided the food and fun. Jeff Ehlers, owner of Stellar Catering, provided the delicious food. Eric Newson and Larry Lagerberg entertained us with their wonderful music. Also, Yvonne Burns wowed the children by providing face painting. The talent is our neighborhood is amazing!
The afternoon ended with a raffle in which a few of our residents went home with some wonderful gift certificates from neighboring businesses. GMCA greatly thanks 240 Union, Café Bisque, The French Press, and Jason’s Deli for their contributions to the raffle. A special thanks goes to The Garlic Knot, which donated a $50 gift certificate. Please patronize our neighborhood restaurants and thank them for their dedication to our community the next time you go out to eat.
GMCA hopes everyone who attended the picnic had a wonderful afternoon with their neighbors. Our goal is to improve and grow the picnic every year. We hope to see you and your neighbors at the picnic next year.
