Born on Green Mountain, Second Wind Fund of Metro Denver

Hosts Nation’s Largest Suicide Prevention at Fairgrounds

Plan on running, walking or biking for the Second Wind Fund of Metro Denver on Sept. 19, 2010  at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Nine years ago a group of just 66 Green Mountain neighbors walked to raise awareness of and funds to prevent teen suicide.  Since then the Second Wind Fund Walk/Run/Ride has grown and grown until it had to be moved to the fairgrounds in 2009.  Funds raised have helped over 1,850 students.

Over 3,200 runners, walkers and bikers are expected this year.   A memorial dove release at 12:20 will be followed by the run/walk/bike event at 12:25.   Lion Vibes will present a concert at 1:15.  There’s also a full free lunch, massages, t-shirts, and kids’ activities.  Speakers will include Jefferson County Commissioner Kevin McCasky, Lakewood Mayor Bob Murphy and Golden Mayor Jacob Smith, and Jeffco Schools Superintendent Cindy Stevenson.

The certified 5k running route, 2- or -4 mile bike ride, and 1-mile walk passes through the Sixth Avenue West neighborhood.

Registration cost is $33 for adults, $18 for students, (with discounts for early registration).  Registration fees are waived for students who raise $50 in pledges, or adults who raise $100 in pledges.  Pledge raisers may also win a hot air balloon ride, or even a one week stay at a luxurious condo in Molokai, Hawaii.

Register online at www.swfmd.org or at Barnes & Noble (14347 Colfax Ave, Lakewood) on Sept. 16 from 4-7:30 pm, at Green Mountain Presbyterian Church in Lakewood on Sept. 18 from 10 am to 2 pm, or on race day.  Questions?  Call 303-763-1775.
