Meet a Neighbor – Dorothy Max

My husband found this area in 1963, and fell in-love with it.  I wasn’t really happy about moving up here.  I worked across Denver, and that meant a long drive, in the winter time with the hills that we had to drive coming up here.  But, you know husbands; they seem to “have their way’.

We found this lot, and the salesman said that no one could block our view.  He was right as far as houses were concerned.  But we didn’t think about the trees blocking the beautiful view.  The trees are still here and still much of our beautiful view.

The area from Cedar to Ohio and from Alkire west was sold to us as GREEN MOUNTAIN FIRESIDE DIVISION.   The rest of the division was known as GREEN MOUNTAIN ESTATES.  I don’t know how the name on the stone at the beginning of Alkire came to be GREEN MOUNTAIN ESTATES, but when we first came here that was not the case.  A man by the name of Mr. Kelly owned a lot of this mountain, and he put light poles, fire hydrants just where he thought they should go. The story goes that he did not go by code.

Mrs. Frances Dixson has lived up here a little longer than I have and we are both in agreement that the name is not the ESTATES but FIRESIDE!!!!!

We moved to the Green Mountain Estates neighborhood in June of 2007. Our previous home near Lakewood High School had become cramped and the yard required a lot of maintenance. When looking for a new home, we focused our search in west Lakewood, but kept coming back to a particular house on Green Mountain that really suited us both. With an increase in indoor space, a xeric landscape, and great city views from the deck, it was an easy decision for us.

Why We Live Here

Why We Live Here

by Gerald and Sue McDaniel, Arbutus Street

We moved to Lakewood in May 1976, the bicentennial year for the U.S. and the centennial year for Colorado. Just before moving, Gerald was employed by the National Park Service in Washington, D.C., and Sue was managing the household and caring for our two children, ages 6 and 4. The long commute in Virginia was not conducive to raising a family, and when we had the chance to move to Colorado, we jumped at it.

How and Why We Moved to Green Mountain

by Desilyn Coday

My husband and I started our Marble and Granite business 11 years ago. Devron has always had his own business. Some with partners and some alone but it always has pertained to the Marble and Granite industry. So, this time he needed a partner he could trust and that would be me. We brought our 5 month old son to work with us. We built him his very own office next to mine. I would change his diapers and feed him while running all the financials and working with clients.  It was quite a challenge and lasted 4 years until he went to preschool.  When our son was 3 we started looking for a home on Green Mountain. We have always liked the neighborhood and the schools.
