My husband found this area in 1963, and fell in-love with it. I wasn’t really happy about moving up here. I worked across Denver, and that meant a long drive, in the winter time with the hills that we had to drive coming up here. But, you know husbands; they seem to “have their way’.
We found this lot, and the salesman said that no one could block our view. He was right as far as houses were concerned. But we didn’t think about the trees blocking the beautiful view. The trees are still here and still much of our beautiful view.
The area from Cedar to Ohio and from Alkire west was sold to us as GREEN MOUNTAIN FIRESIDE DIVISION. The rest of the division was known as GREEN MOUNTAIN ESTATES. I don’t know how the name on the stone at the beginning of Alkire came to be GREEN MOUNTAIN ESTATES, but when we first came here that was not the case. A man by the name of Mr. Kelly owned a lot of this mountain, and he put light poles, fire hydrants just where he thought they should go. The story goes that he did not go by code.
Mrs. Frances Dixson has lived up here a little longer than I have and we are both in agreement that the name is not the ESTATES but FIRESIDE!!!!!
