1982 - The First Field of Dreams

The Navy Seabees were there first.

GMCA Treasurer Larry Carlson was recently chatting with a friend of his, Russ Gleason.  Larry happened to mention our Field of Dreams project. It turns out that Russ, aka Captain Russell Gleason, US Navy retired, had mounted a volunteer effort in 1982 with his Seabees to reconstruct an area similar to the one that of our Field of Dreams. 

Small world.  These pictures are wonderful.  "Mom's Hill" in the background was a favorite playground back then.

Captain, we agree with the vision that you saw, and now after 30 years we will be carrying on that vision.
