2013 Holiday Lights - Sustainablity Photos
This year we introduced the topic of sustainablity. It started with neighbors discussing the concept. We then went the city which is so involved in sustainabiltiy that the mayor has a Sustainability Division Manager. We interviewed Erich Harris and he gave us some ideas. (Interview)
The single dominant factor in a sustainablity display is simplicity. Conserving resources and at the same time bringing a smile to the creator and viewer is shown in a few examples we spotted this year. The concept will no doubt grow on us in the years to come.

Four trees in a yard - a nice message to the neighbors.
Three tries can do the same.
And just for fun, a footnote on photography this year....
The photos above were taken by Dave Murphy with a point-and-shoot on a tripod. Sustainability shots in small settings require a lot less skill and less camera than those full house shots by Lee Flower. Here's a nice picture of a disaster of a snapshot when enthusiasm replaces skill. Who knew a flash wouldn't be just the right thing in a snow storm? |
