Update to the GMCA Bylaws approved at the August 7, 2014 meeting.
The change to section 4.2 made on March 6 and reported below was botched by a typo. A replacement section 4.2 was approved on August 7, 2014. It now reads:
Section 2.4. Notice of Meeting. Notice of the time and place of any meeting and the purpose of all special meetings shall be given to the members at least 10 but not more than 50 days prior to the date of any such meeting. Notice shall be given by electronic mail or such other means as the board of directors may deem advisable.
Updates to the GMCA Bylaws for Consideration at the meeting March 6, 2014
The board propose a change our current fiscal year from ending on October 31 to ending on December 31. In doing this, we discovered in using a strict interpretation of our bylaws that a few other simplifications are in order. At the next meeting we will vote on the following four changes. The complete bylaws are kept on the website under the “About GMCA” menu item.
Currently: Section 8.1. Fiscal Year. The fiscal year shall begin on the first day of November and end on the last day of October in each year.
Proposed: Section 8.1. Fiscal Year. The fiscal year shall begin on the first day of January and end on the last day of December in each year.
Rational: We can’t find any reason to have our books kept in anything but the simplest manner.
---------------
Currently: phrase in Section 2.4. Notice of Meeting. … Notice shall be given by public media and such other means as the board of directors may deem advisable.
Proposed: phrase Section 2.4. Notice of Meeting. … Notice shall be given by electronic mail as provided to the association my members and such other means as the board of directors may deem advisable.
Rational: It’s not really clear what “public media” means, perhaps a newspaper ad. Email is the communications means of our times.
