A Duck Comes to Visit?

We're compelled to publish this report because it's a first.  We're all familiar with the dear, rabbits, foxes, coyotes and even snakes we regularly see in our neighborhood.  (Their neighborhood?)  This in October of 2015 is a first for a duck hanging around
"Hi there, we have had this duck hanging out in our yard all weekend and she seems to be either lost, hurt or waiting for something. We aren't sure if she belongs to a neighbor or if she came from a nearby pond, but we are concerned that since she has been here for a while that she is in need of some help. I've been feeding her bread and given her water but she hasn't strayed and does seem scared. I plan on calling the animal shelters in the morning to see what they advise, if she is still here. If she belongs to a neighbor, please let me know so you can come pick her up. Thanks!"
"Regarding the duck- she is no longer on our property this morning, she must have moved on."

I'm sure there are those who might think that feeding a rogue animal is the wrong thing to do, and they're right.  But maternal instincts take over when she might be hurt.  Oh well.

Speaking of ducks, the editor has wondered for 40 years why geese cross Union Blvd on foot when they could fly.  Don't know what that instinct that is.

And to complete this thought, casual research finds that geese are larger than ducks and honk and hiss.  A duck quacks.  If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.
