Home Security Survey
Many of us in GMCA discovered the Home Security Survey, a service provided by the Lakewood Police Department, when Officer Chad Martinez joined us at a normal board meeting April 3, 2014. Officer Martinez was there to brief us on a burglary that occurred in March. The officer as well as the homeowner and a eye witness to the burglary all jointed us. The incident description can be read in report from that meeting.
One of the most important messages that Officer Martinez brought to us is the importance of having a Home Security Survey performed by persons trained by the Lakewood Police department. (Our experience is with Frank and Barb, a skilled volunteer couple who has been through the police department training. By the way, all security surveys are scheduled through our liaison police officers, in this case, Officer Martinez. (See bottom of this page for contact info.)

The survey is made up two critical elements. First, the trained personnel will take you on a tour of your property from the perspective of a criminal. It was very interesting to walk around your own home and hear someone tell you, "Here's what you see and here's what a perpetrator sees." Wow.
The second critical element of the activiity is the Survey form itself. The answers are developed during the house tour and they are left with you as a work product. This list is extremely important, but it's impact is really driven home by the professionals delivering it.
Below are samples of the two-page survey. Under each you may download a picture (jpg) each side.
