Auto Break-In - Submitted June 3, 2015
I also live on West Virginia Drive and my car was broken into, except they broke the passenger side window. Unfortunately, when I was unloading groceries I accidentally left my purse on the floor of the car. It was a nightmare shutting down various credit cards, changing my checking account number, driver's license, etc. There is a thief up here ~ somewhere. Even if you lock your car doors, they can still violate you. I had a motion light installed on the side of my garage door. Hopefully, that will deter any future break ins.

Burglary of Unlocked Truck - Submitted June 3, 2015 (W. Virginia Dr.)
I accidentally left my truck unlocked last night and someone rifled through my interior and stole my Garmin GPS, the only thing of value, thank goodness. After living on Green Mountain for 22 years, this is the only incident I have had. That says a lot about our neighborhood and why I remain here! However, I’d like to get the word out to the other neighbors on GM, and don’t really know how, that there some people with sticky fingers running around.

Car Break-in - October 1, 2014 (Green Mountainside Nextdoor.com)
"I was the unfortunate victim of theft whereas my laptop, and backpack were stolen out of my vehicle. I think I forgot to lock the door, or they used a slim jim. The result is the same, a disgusting excuse of a human being decided that they would take my laptop. The joke is on them, as the software on the machine will erase, and render the computer useless. I am letting everybody out there know, so you don't suffer the same feeling of violation as me. Keep your valuables somewhere other than your vehicles. Also keep your vehicles locked, including RVs, and camper shells."

Break-in - July 10, 2014 (Reported in Green Mountainside Nextdoor.com)
"Thursday night some people came into our garage, dismantled the garage door, turned off our sensor lights, and then cleaned out our freezer full of meat. It had about 6 months of food in there. They also dumped out a plastic bin in the garage in order to haul it away. We think it is someone in the neighborhood and was too close for comfort."

Burglary - January, 2014
There was an incident in "... Jan 2014 down the street from us on Arbutus. My neighbor (not a GMCA member), told me that they were broken into on a windy(loud) night in Jan while they were home. The thieves broke in to an outdoor vehicle, used the garage door opener to access garage, then house, laptops, wallet, purse, and both the suv and truck stolen as they slept. The storm was loud enough that they heard nothing, and didn't report anything until waking up. Their truck had already been crashed and abandoned in N. Denver, no one caught. "
(Everyone living in Greenmountainside / Green Mountain Estates is designated a "member" of GMCA as defined in our bylaws.)

We were introduced to the www.RAIDSOnline.com site by Office Martinez when we were briefed in a very well attended board meeting in April of 2014. This site provides a graphical representation of police reports for participating jurisdictions. Lakewood is one. The site provides a wide range of analytical tools used by law enforcement and it is available to us.
Below is a picture from the site taken on 4-21-2014. Our interest is in the two sections we highlighted on the far left in a reddish color. Our neighborhood is indicated as well as the date range for the report. This view is for 1-1-2014 through 4-21-2014. If you click the picture, it gets a bit larger. If you go to the site you can zoom in on just our neighborhood. (More comments below this picture.)

This picture shows 5 incidents in this period of time in our neighborhood: 1 Car Theft, 2 Burglaries, and 2 Thefts (not breakins)
We often characterize our neighborhood as one of the safest in Lakewood. A close study of the map, after ignoring the high density commercial areas, probably says we're pretty good, but perhaps average in the neighborhoods we would typically compare ourselves to.
Most important. it is probably true that the five incidents we have had so far this year may well have been prevented through good neighbor practices.
